It's been winning for the last 20 years.
Seriously, what's the best way to service this engine? Drop the damn sub-frame from the body and do it that way? 'Cause even after you disassemble the entire front of the interior, take the doghouse off and get to it that way, there's hardly any room.
Stupid kinda cab over design.

so do you have to take the transmission out to change the spark plugs?
That really is something there- you weren't kidding, it really is hidden

No, the transmission is just shoved even further backwards.
That's how far back the engine is. NEXT to your feet.

....at least the distributor cap is easily accessible?
If they shoved that engine any further back it'd qualify as a mid engine. You have a Lambo! We'll call it the Safararista SV

Well it IS behind the front axles.

After a few of these years ago I started refusing to work on them. Vans in general actually.

Wow. How hard is it to change plugs and wires on that thing?

Don't know, haven't tried. Don't want to.

It. Is. A. MAJOR. MAJOR. Bitch. My cousin had an '86 Astro and my hand got stuck under the flange twice.....wish that video had been around back then....took the ENITRE day to replace 6 plugs. The two we 'dropped' finally fell out in the driveway days later on separate occasions.
